The MLTF is launching a year-long series of monthly trainings that will serve as an introduction to military law for lawyers as well as non-lawyer advocates.

All instruction will be conducted live via Zoom, but will later be available as recorded presentations.

The series is being planned and organized by James M. Branum, who has defended military servicemembers in courts-martial and administrative proceedings since 2006.

The trainings are divided into two tracks:

  • CLE track – Monthly 1.5 hour CLE sessions designed to get inexperienced lawyers equipped with the basic skills to do their first military law cases, but also to serve as a refresher course for experienced military defense lawyers. Law students and experienced GI Rights Counselors and Legal Workers may also find this track appropriate.
  • Activist track – Monthly workshops for non-lawyer advocates/activists organizing in military communities or who want to learn how to do so.
